On September 15, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' subsidiary, Ferry Sunflower, proudly launched its latest maritime addition, the remarkable Sunflower Kirishima. This state-of-the-art ferry, which boasts an impressive capacity increase of 20% for trucks compared to its predecessor, set sail from the Nanko Sunflower Terminal located in Osaka Prefecture, heading towards the Port of Shibushi in Kagoshima Prefecture. Measuring 192 meters in length and 27 meters in width, the Sunflower Kirishima showcases a gross tonnage of 13,659 tons. It is designed to accommodate over 700 passengers alongside 121 large trucks, marking a significant advancement in ferry transportation.
Japan Marine United Expands Ferry Fleet with Delivery of SUNFLOWER KIRISHIMA
On August 16, Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) announced the successful delivery of the SUNFLOWER KIRISHIMA to Ferry Sunflower. This new ferry is a sister vessel to the previously launched SUNFLOWER SATSUMA, which began operations on May 15, 2018, along the 581-kilometer route connecting Osaka and Shibushi. The introduction of SUNFLOWER KIRISHIMA is set to enhance the ferry service's capacity and efficiency, catering to increased passenger demand in the region.
