Supercat Jet Suffers Bow Damage Due to Rough Seas
On June 19, 2024, at 12:00 PM, the Port Authority of Mykonos received a report from the captain of the ‘Supercat Jet,’ which had just docked at the port after completing its regular route from Paros to Ios, Thira, and back to Mykonos with 320 passengers aboard. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions and powerful waves led to an incident where the vessel's anchor struck the starboard side bow, causing significant damage. In response, the Local Ship Inspection Unit conducted an emergency examination of the ferry. Subsequently, the Mykonos Port Authority placed a sailing prohibition on the Supercat Jet, requiring the presentation of a certification of seaworthiness from its overseeing classification society before any further voyages.
