Allegations of Grain Theft: SV Konstantin Docks in Tartus
The vessel 'SV Konstantin', reportedly carrying stolen Ukrainian grain, has docked at the Syrian port of Tartus, escalating tensions surrounding the shipping of Ukrainian agricultural products. This incident represents the latest addition to the ongoing controversy over Ukrainian grain — whether it's legitimately acquired or allegedly pilfered — arriving in Syria. Previously, the ship 'Razoni' successfully delivered legally sourced Ukrainian corn in line with a United Nations initiative aimed at facilitating the export of Ukraine's food amidst the ongoing conflict. The 'SV Konstantin' embarked from the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula around July 6 after loading grain in Sevastopol. It is worth noting that the region has seen Russian forces transporting grain from occupied areas via truck. The vessel proceeded through the Bosphorus strait, made a stop in Izmir, and continued along the Mediterranean Sea near Cyprus before turning off its Automatic Identification System (AIS) on August 14. Satellite imagery confirmed that the 'SV Konstantin' was positioned off Tartus' coast on August 16 and 17, coinciding with its last confirmed AIS transmissions north of Cyprus.
