On March 8, 2011, a dramatic incident took place in the port of Andenes as the Norwegian fishing vessel 'Bjerka' (MMSI No.: 257419500), measuring 65 feet, succumbed to the sea after colliding with the vessel 'Feed Tromso'. The 'Bjerka' was docked at the quay and had not ventured out to sea for several days due to adverse weather conditions. The impact from the 'Feed Tromso' left a sizable breach in the starboard side of the hull, leading to rapid flooding. Despite the swift response of the rescue boat 'Dagfinn Paust', which arrived on the scene and deployed three bilge pumps, the vessel sank within minutes. The 'Feed Tromso' was maneuvering to turn in the harbor after an unloading operation when it struck the stationary 'Bjerka'. Fortunately, there were no crew members aboard the 'Bjerka' at the time of the accident. Following the incident, the skipper of the 'Feed Tromso' underwent a routine drug test, which returned negative results. He reported experiencing technical difficulties with his vessel prior to the collision.
