On April 22, 2016, Svitzer UK celebrated the official naming of its latest tug, 'Svitzer Deben', in a ceremony held at the Port of Felixstowe. This modern Damen ASD 3212 escort tug boasts an impressive bollard pull of 80 tonnes and was constructed at the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, arriving at its new home earlier this year. The Svitzer Deben features advanced engineering, including a 2800mm controllable pitch propeller, a hydraulically powered double drum forward winch, and a single drum aft winch. Propulsion is provided by two Caterpillar 3516C HD+ TA/D engines paired with two Rolls Royce US255 P30 CP Special thrusters, making it a formidable asset in the fleet. Currently operational in the Port of Felixstowe, Svitzer Deben joins fellow tugs Svitzer Shotley, Svitzer Sky, and Svitzer Stanford, enhancing the port’s capabilities in safely assisting the largest container vessels as they navigate their way into port waters.
Svitzer Welcomes Damen ASD Tug 3212 Vessels to the UK Fleet
In a significant expansion of its fleet, Svitzer, a prominent global leader in towage and salvage operations, has successfully received two Damen ASD Tugs 3212 in the United Kingdom. This milestone was solidified with a contract signed during the esteemed Tugnology 2015 event held in London in May, as reported in Damen's official press release. These advanced vessels, constructed for stock at the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, made their way to Rotterdam in late October, arriving as part of a 22-vessel shipment aboard BigLift Shipping’s heavy-lift vessel, the Happy Star. The newly named Svitzer Deben and Svitzer Kent, each measuring 32 meters, boast an impressive bollard pull of 80 tonnes. They are equipped with state-of-the-art 2.8-meter controllable pitch propellers (CPP) and specialized render recovery winches, enhancing Svitzer's capabilities in towage operations.
SVITZER DEBEN Joins Fleet in Felixstowe: A New Era of Towage Power
The maritime scene in Felixstowe just got a significant boost with the arrival of the newly launched tug, SVITZER DEBEN. Built by the renowned Damen Shipyard group, this impressive ASD 3212 tug, alongside her sister vessel SVITZER KENT, recently made a journey from Rotterdam. Delivered aboard the vessel HAPPY STAR, the tugs were initially held in Rotterdam Europoort due to rough weather conditions in the North Sea. After waiting for an improvement in the weather, SVITZER DEBEN has now reached its designated homeport of Felixstowe. Svitzer, a global leader in towage and emergency response services, commissioned these powerful Damen ASD 3212 tugs, each boasting an impressive bollard pull of 80 tonnes. They are specifically designed to enhance towing and escort operations in key locations including the Thames and Felixstowe. Constructed at Damen’s cutting-edge Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam, these 32-meter tugs are equipped for diverse operations such as push-pull, escorting, towing, and fire-fighting. With a beam of 12.2 meters and a cruising speed of 14 knots, SVITZER DEBEN is powered by two robust Caterpillar 3516C HD TA/D engines, generating a combined power output of 5,050 bkW at 1,800 rpm.
