On January 6, 2022, the tug 'Svitzer Gelliswick' embarked on a critical mission to rescue the drifting crane barge 'BD 6072' (MMSI: 235030693), which had suffered a broken anchor off South Hook Point, situated approximately 0.7 nautical miles from safety. At 8:40 a.m., the Angle Lifeboat was alerted after the barge, with five crew members onboard, began to drift due to three dragging anchors amidst fierce winds of up to 50 knots and swells reaching 3.5 meters near Monk Haven in the Milford Haven waterway. As the tug maneuvered to secure a tow and guide the barge to safety, it faced challenges due to the rough sea conditions. The lifeboat took position nearby to ensure the crew's safety in the event of an evacuation. In a coordinated effort by Milford Haven Port Authority, the tug eventually succeeded in towing the barge upriver towards Milford Shelf, with help from a companion tug. Once the barge was safely re-anchored, the lifeboat returned to her mooring at 1:35 p.m., marking a successful rescue operation to start the year.
