Delivery of New Damen ASD Tug 3212 'Svitzer Kent' Marks a Milestone for Svitzer

Dec 05, 2015 08:56

Svitzer, the preeminent global expert in towage and salvage services, has celebrated the arrival of two newly constructed Damen ASD Tugs 3212 in the United Kingdom. The agreement for these vessels was initially finalized during the Tugnology 2015 conference held in London back in May. According to a recent press release from Damen, the tugs were fabricated at the Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam and reached Rotterdam in late October aboard the BigLift Shipping heavy-lift vessel, Happy Star, as part of a larger shipment consisting of 22 vessels. The tugs, named Svitzer Deben and Svitzer Kent, each measure 32 meters in length and are capable of delivering an impressive 80 tonnes of bollard pull. They feature advanced 2.8-meter controllable pitch propellers (CPP) and are outfitted with specialized render recovery winches. Notably, Svitzer Kent has been upgraded with FiFi1 fire-fighting capabilities, while Svitzer Deben includes an aft winch. Both vessels are set to perform vital towage and escort tasks in the ports of London (Gravesend) and Felixstowe. This delivery showcases Svitzer's ongoing commitment to enhancing its fleet with state-of-the-art equipment tailored for port operations.
