A heartbreaking incident occurred aboard the 'SVS Vega' on the evening of January 29, 2026, when a Ukrainian crew member tragically lost his life due to an accident during cargo operations. The vessel was docked at the Levante Wharf in the Port of Valencia at the time of the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the sailor may have gotten trapped between two containers, resulting in a fatal head injury while crane-assisted unloading took place on deck. Emergency responders, including the Port Police and medical services, arrived within minutes; however, they were unable to revive the sailor, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The Civil Guard has taken over the investigation to ascertain the details surrounding this unfortunate event and its causes.
