Taharoa Destiny Honored for Enhancing Marine Weather Observations
The NYK-operated vessel Taharoa Destiny has been celebrated for its pivotal role in advancing marine weather forecasting. Recently, the ship received the prestigious Director-General Award from the Japan Meteorological Agency, acknowledging its significant contributions to meteorological business development through consistent monitoring and reporting of marine weather conditions. Every year, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) in Japan, in conjunction with the director-general of the Japan Meteorological Agency, recognizes ships that excel in observing and reporting weather at sea. Notably, NYK-operated vessels have a strong history of accolades, having been awarded both the MLIT’s Minister Award and the Meteorological Agency’s Director-General Award in 2005. Since its inception in 2012, Taharoa Destiny has been actively transporting an impressive 1.2 million tons of ironsand slurry each year between New Zealand and destinations in China and Japan. NYK is committed to continue enhancing maritime safety by providing vital information on marine weather conditions.
