Generator Malfunction Halts 'Talos' Ferry During Journey
On May 8, 2026, at approximately noon, the Naxos Port Authority received notification of a mechanical issue onboard the ferry 'Talos'. The incident was triggered by an overheating generator shortly after the vessel's departure from Naxos. The 'Talos' was en route to multiple destinations, including Keratsini, Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, and back to Naxos, carrying 20 crew members and four passengers. Fortunately, the ferry managed to safely anchor at Naxos. Following the submission of a seaworthiness certificate from the overseeing classification society, the ferry was briefly allowed to make a return trip to Keratsini. However, upon arrival in Keratsini, the 2nd Port Department of Keratsini, under the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, imposed a sailing ban on the ferry until the necessary repairs were completed and a maintenance certification was obtained from the classification society.
Ferry 'Talis' Grounded and Allided in Naxos
On January 17, 2026, at approximately noon, the Naxos Port Authority received reports regarding the grounding of the ferry 'Talis', which had run aground on a sandy shallow in the 'Vintzi' area of the port. The vessel was en route on a regular schedule from Andros to Syros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Evdilos, and Vathy, with 20 crew members, 12 passengers, and 29 trucks onboard. After managing to detach itself and navigate under its own power, the 'Talis' attempted to dock at the port. However, during mooring, the stern of the vessel collided with the central pier due to fierce winds and unfavorable weather conditions, preventing a safe docking. Consequently, the ferry proceeded to an anchorage located southwest of Naxos at Mikri Vigla and later relocated to the southern coast of Kimolos, where it remained anchored until weather conditions improved. By the afternoon of January 18, based on requests from the ship's management and the classification society, the ferry moved to the southern coast of Kimolos once again to wait for better weather. Eventually, on the evening of the same day, the 'Talis' set sail towards the port of Keratsini. Subsequently, the 2nd Port Department of Keratsini from the Central Port Authority of Piraeus imposed a ban on the vessel from sailing until it could present a certificate of seaworthiness from the supervising classification society. As of January 20, the 'Talos' remained moored in Piraeus, while a preliminary investigation into the incident was initiated. Seaworthiness in Question: 'Talos' Ferry Faces Anchor Mechanism Failure
On January 12, 2026, the Port Authority of Mesta in Chios received crucial reports regarding the 'Talos' ferry. During its scheduled departure from Mesta, the vessel encountered a significant mechanical issue with its starboard anchor mechanism, rendering it impossible to lift the anchor. In light of this situation, the Mesta Port Station took decisive action by prohibiting the ferry's departure until a valid certificate of seaworthiness is obtained from the designated classification society responsible for monitoring vessel conditions. Maritime safety remains a top priority as authorities ensure compliance with regulations.
Trouble for Ferry 'Talos' as RORO Ramp Malfunctions in Kos
On April 9, 2025, the Kos Port Authority received reports of a malfunction affecting the RORO ramp of the ferry 'Talos', which was carrying a crew of 20. The incident took place as the vessel was making its approach to the port amid challenging weather conditions. Due to safety concerns, the 'Talos' was redirected to a secure anchorage. At the time of the incident, the ferry was en route on its regular service from Rhodes, making stops at Mykonos and Piraeus. It was transporting a diverse load that included 10 trucks, 17 empty tankers, five private cars, and four trailers. Initially, the Kos Port Authority issued a ban on the ship's departure. However, after presenting a seaworthiness certificate from the overseeing classification society, the ferry was granted permission to embark on a single journey to Keratsini.
Incident at Mytilene: 'Talos' Propeller Snags Rope During Unmooring
On December 15, 2024, the 'Talos' encountered an unfortunate situation while unmooring at the bustling port of Mytilene. During this maneuver, a rope became entangled in the starboard propeller, prompting immediate action. A diving team was dispatched for an inspection, but despite their efforts, they were unable to remove all remnants of the rope from the shaft. Consequently, the Port Authority of Mytilene took precautionary measures by prohibiting the vessel’s departure until a valid seaworthiness certificate was presented. Following the resolution of this issue, the 'Talos' was cleared to set sail for Keratsini, carrying a crew of 20 along with 24 vehicles and four drivers, marking a significant moment in the ship’s operational journey.
