Working Conditions Aboard the Tauranga

In the early hours of September 23, 2011, the cargo vessel 'Tauranga' encountered trouble while approaching Haugesund, running aground on a shallow area near Tonjer Lighthouse at approximately 1 a.m. The incident prompted a swift response from the rescue vessel 'Bergen Kreds,' which was dispatched to assist the stranded ship. Local authorities conducted interviews with the crew, who explained that a change in course was necessitated by the proximity of another vessel, ultimately leading to the grounding. Divers from the 'Bergen Kreds' were deployed to inspect the hull, and while they confirmed there were no leaks, signs of grounding damage were evident. The Sjøfartsdirektoratet has been informed and will determine whether the 'Tauranga' can continue its journey from Haugesund.
