Working Conditions Aboard the Teleost

On March 7, 2021, the research vessel 'Teleost' encountered a significant engine control malfunction as it neared the docking area of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Halifax. Following the failure, the crew promptly dropped anchor and halted the engine to conduct necessary repairs. After addressing the mechanical issues, the vessel was able to safely berth at its destination.

On December 1, 2015, a crew member aboard the fishing vessel 'Teleost' necessitated an urgent medical evacuation off the coast of Newfoundland. The incident unfolded 278 kilometers from shore, showcasing the critical role of maritime rescue operations in adverse conditions. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Halifax quickly sprang into action, deploying a Cormorant helicopter from 103 Squadron based in Gander, as well as military aircraft from 413 Squadron in Nova Scotia. After encountering delays due to inclement weather, the 53-year-old man was successfully hoisted from the vessel and airlifted to a hospital in Gander. The operation concluded in the early hours of December 2, demonstrating the efficiency and responsiveness of Canadian search and rescue teams in remote maritime emergencies.
