Ystad Port Incident Involving Ferry 'Jan Sniadecki'

Oct 24, 2019 17:55

On October 24, 2019, at approximately 11 a.m., the ferry 'Jan Sniadecki' found itself in a precarious situation upon its arrival at the Ystad port. The vessel had departed from Swinoujscie earlier that morning at 6 a.m., but as it navigated into the harbor, it lost control and collided with a pier, resulting in significant damage to the ship's bow. Not only was the hull compromised above the bulbous bow, but the pier also sustained injuries from the impact. Before the vessel's unfortunate allision with the pier, it narrowly avoided a collision with another ferry that was berthed nearby. The exact cause of the incident remains undetermined. Following the accident, the 'Jan Sniadecki' left Ystad again on October 25 at 2:30 p.m. After making a final stop at Swinoujscie, the ferry departed once more on October 26 at 11:40 a.m., reaching the Makrum SA Pomerania Shipyard in Szczecin for necessary repairs by 3:20 p.m. of the same day.
