On March 4, 2025, a coordinated operation led by customs officials and federal police targeted the bulk carrier 'Tiger South' upon its arrival from Aratu at Brake port. Authorities suspected the vessel of being involved in drug trafficking activities. During the thorough inspection, including examinations by divers at the sea chests, an astonishing 280 kg of cocaine was located affixed to the ship's hull. The illicit drugs were promptly confiscated. In connection with this operation, six individuals aged between 38 and 60 years were apprehended. Notably, three of the suspects, who were divers, attempted to retrieve the cocaine packages directly from the vessel's hull. The arrested individuals hail from Romania, Albania, and Colombia. Arrest warrants have been issued for four of the suspects, and authorities are currently awaiting decisions from the magistrate regarding further legal actions. Additionally, on March 3, several apartments linked to the suspects were raided as part of the investigation by the Joint Narcotics Investigation Group (GER), which had been diligently tracking the suspects prior to the operation. Following the incident, the 'Tiger South' resumed its maritime journey, departing Brake port on March 6 to fulfill further orders.
