Working Conditions Aboard the Timas-1201

On August 1, 2023, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) conducted a significant operation in the waters of Pengerang, leading to the detention of three vessels. Among them was the US-operated pipe-laying vessel, GLOBAL 1201, alongside the bunkering tanker MAJU 8 and the moored tanker SENTEK 26. The MAJU 8 was halted due to the absence of necessary documentation, while the GLOBAL 1201 and SENTEK 26 faced scrutiny over suspected unauthorized ship-to-ship (STS) fuel transfers. Each detained vessel could face substantial fines as a result of these violations. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Malaysian authorities to regulate maritime activities and ensure compliance within their territorial waters.

French offshore engineering leader, Technip, has announced plans to acquire the subsea construction and pipeline installation firm, Global Industries, for an impressive $1.07 billion. In a move that marks a significant investment in the sector, Technip will offer $8 in cash for each outstanding share of Global, representing a notable 55 percent premium compared to Global's closing share price last Friday. This $1 billion acquisition also involves the assumption of $136 million in existing debt. Global Industries boasts two cutting-edge s-lay vessels, the Global 1200 and Global 1201, which are capable of laying concrete-coated pipelines with a diameter of up to 60 inches at depths nearing 10,000 feet. This strategic acquisition is expected to bolster Technip's capabilities in the subsea market.
