Working Conditions Aboard the Toenne

On June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m., the dredger 'Toenne' encountered a serious incident when it leaked approximately 700 liters of hydraulic fuel during maintenance operations in Thyborøn. The local response was swift, with five emergency vehicles and a total of 16 personnel dispatched to the scene to manage the oil spill and initiate cleanup efforts at the harbor. Fortunately, the oil drifted towards the opposite side of the dock, facilitating its collection. However, it was anticipated that the comprehensive removal of the spilled oil would extend throughout most of the day, highlighting the challenges posed by such environmental hazards.

A maritime incident unfolded on November 21, 2011, when the Danish dredger 'Helle Saj' (IMO: 8874407) sank after colliding with the vessel 'Tønne' near Thorsminde. The collision occurred as 'Helle Saj' was departing the port while 'Tønne' was making its approach. The impact caused 'Helle Saj' to capsize almost instantly, prompting its two crew members to leap into the sea for safety. Fortunately, they were rescued shortly after by the crew of 'Tønne'. In the aftermath of the collision, 'Helle Saj' was left partially submerged, resting on its side approximately 200 meters off the port. The Danish Navy's 'Manø' quickly arrived at the scene to assist in the situation. Additionally, the anti-pollution vessel 'Gunnar Thorson' departed from Frederikshavn and was projected to reach the location by November 22. Fortunately, preliminary checks revealed that 'Helle Saj' did not carry any diesel fuel, potentially mitigating environmental risks. Divers were scheduled to conduct initial assessments on November 22.
