On the evening of August 22, 2019, a crew member aboard the bulk carrier 'Tomini Dynasty' became the target of an armed robbery while the vessel was anchored at Belawan, located at coordinates 03 54 40N, 098 47 25E. At around 6:30 PM, the vigilant crew member observed a small boat maneuvering near the ship’s anchor chain. Concerned for safety, he attempted to communicate with the boat's occupant, advising them to steer clear due to the impending anchorage operation. Unfortunately, in a twist of fate, the crew member was ambushed by two assailants who had surreptitiously boarded the vessel. Brandishing a knife, the robbers held him hostage and restrained him. Meanwhile, as the remaining crew members gathered at the forecastle to prepare for the anchor's lifting, they unwittingly caught the attention of the intruders. Seizing the opportunity, the robbers snatched the crew member's portable radio and made a swift getaway through the hawse pipe after removing the security cover. The incident prompted a notification to Port Control. Following the vessel's docking, Marine Police conducted an investigation aboard the 'Tomini Dynasty' to gather further details regarding the theft.
