Engine Failure Averted: The 'Romi' Overcomes Adversity Near Skerries
On March 9, 2020, at 02:15 a.m., the vessel 'Romi' encountered a critical issue while navigating through the waters near Skerries. The ship, which was on a voyage from Antwerp, was carrying a substantial load of 3,949 tonnes of expanded clay and had a crew of six on board when a broken oil pipe resulted in engine troubles at coordinates 53° 28' N and 004° 37' W. In response to the situation, the 'Romi' strategically maneuvered out of the East-bound lane of the Skerries Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) to allow for emergency repairs. The crew worked diligently, successfully completing the necessary repairs by 5:20 a.m. Later that day, around 10 p.m., the vessel anchored safely at position 53° 28.35' N and 003° 25.46' W, just off Liverpool. The following day, on March 10, at 3:40 p.m., the 'Romi' made her way into Ellesmere Port, demonstrating resilience and effective handling of maritime challenges.
Disabled Freighter 'Romi' Towage to Le Havre Successfully Completed
On May 31, 2019, the freighter 'Romi', while sailing from Drammen to Barreiro with a crew of six, encountered a serious coolant leak in its engine power head. This incident occurred approximately 25 miles south of Durlstone Head, at coordinates 50° 13' 09" N, 002° 05' 04" W, around 7 a.m. As the situation worsened, by 2:50 p.m. the vessel's captain determined that the crew was unable to resolve the issue and decided to notify the shipowners regarding a plan to head to Le Havre for repairs. In response to the emergency, the British tug 'MTS Indus' (IMO: 8884830) was dispatched at 9 p.m. The tug began towing the 'Romi' under favorable conditions, with southwest winds recorded at 11 knots and a mild sea state, achieving a towing speed of approximately 4.5 knots. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) at Le Havre was set for June 1 at 10 p.m. Following its arrival in Le Havre, the 'Romi' resumed its voyage on June 4, making a stop in Lisbon before reaching Setubal on June 12. The vessel's next destination is Ghent, with an ETA planned for June 19.
