Working Conditions Aboard the True-Cardinal

On October 30, 2018, a U.S. Coast Guard aircrew successfully performed a medical evacuation for a 46-year-old Russian crew member aboard the vessel "Olympic Hope," situated 45 miles off the coast of Washington. The operation began at 1:45 p.m. when the Coast Guard 13th District Command Center in Seattle received a call for assistance from the vessel's operators, triggering a rapid response that included arranging for language translation. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Sector Field Office/Air Station Port Angeles was deployed at 3:48 p.m. and arrived on site by 4:20 p.m. The injured crew member, suffering from a separated shoulder, was successfully hoisted aboard at 4:39 p.m. and transported to emergency medical services awaiting nearby. He was then taken to Olympic Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, the "Olympic Hope" continued its journey towards its next destination, Nakhodka, Russia.
