Tundraland Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On January 7, 2026, the ferry 'Tundraland', while traveling from Travemünde to Zeebrugge, unexpectedly collided with the south embankment of the Kiel Canal, just a short distance from the Breiholz ferry landing. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. after the ferry had changed pilots in Schülp. While navigating towards the Breiholz siding, the vessel suddenly veered to the southeast, crashing into the canal's embankment. Fortunately, there were no signs of water ingress or other notable damage to the ferry. Initial investigations by the Kiel Water Police suggest that a potential technical malfunction may have been responsible for the vessel's unexpected course alteration. However, as of the evening of the incident, the investigation remains ongoing. After the collision, the 'Tundraland' managed to dislodge itself from the embankment using the strength of its two MAN engines and returned to the navigable channel. By approximately 3:30 a.m., after a thorough check for any possible leaks, the ship resumed its journey towards Brunsbüttel, coordinating with the traffic control center. Once arrived in Brunsbüttel, the ferry was examined further. In a precautionary measure, the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Transport Sector (BG Verkehr) issued a navigation prohibition until a full assessment of the accident's cause is completed. Divers have also been deployed to inspect the underwater hull for any damage or signs of the impact. On January 8, the 'Tundraland' set sail again and successfully arrived in Zeebrugge on January 9.

Svenska Orient Linien AB (SOL) has announced its acquisition of three vessels, namely the "Transpulp", "Transtimber", and "Transpaper", from Stora Enso. This strategic move enables SOL to sustain its transportation capacity of 1.2 million tons of paper annually.
