On September 25, 2021, the bulk carrier 'Ocean Castle' encountered an unfortunate incident while entering Oshawa Harbour on Lake Ontario. The vessel, returning from Montreal with a heavy cargo of steel, struck the pier with its port-side stern during maneuvers to secure its berth. This allision resulted in visible damage to both the ship’s stern and the pier, prompting the closure of the pier to the public for safety reasons. Following this event, the 'Ocean Castle' successfully berthed in Hamilton on September 28.
