Unistar's Grounding in Mälaren: Swift Recovery by Swedish Coastguard
In the early hours of March 25, 2015, at approximately 03:28 a.m., the Swedish Coastguard received an alert regarding the 'Unistar', which had run aground while navigating Mälaren. The vessel, on its journey from St. Petersburg to Hasselby, had just cleared the Södertälje locks when it encountered difficulties, possibly due to a rudder malfunction. Fortunately, there were no reported spills or injuries. The Coastguard promptly deployed the response vessels 'KBV 315' and 'KBV 031', the latter equipped with divers for potential assistance. At 4:21 a.m., the 'Unistar' successfully refloated and continued under its own power towards Södertälje. Upon docking at berth 4 in the outer port, Coastguard divers conducted thorough inspections before the ship resumed its voyage to Hasselby the following morning, March 26.
Detention of Unistar in Wismar Port Over Technical Issues
The bulk carrier 'Unistar' faced detention at the port of Wismar on February 10, 2015, after a significant technical failure came to light. Having arrived from Tahkoluoto two days earlier, the vessel was subjected to a routine inspection on February 9 where authorities discovered an alarming quantity of oil residues within the engine room. Contamination was noticeable in the bilge and parts of the engine compartment. It appeared that repair efforts had been undertaken without proper clarification regarding the underlying issues leading to the engine room's poor condition. As a result, the ship's classification was suspended until all identified deficiencies are thoroughly addressed.
Search Efforts Underway for Missing Crewmember in the North Sea
On May 26, 2011, at 10:25 a.m., the German Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received an urgent alert about a missing crewmember from the vessel 'Emi Leader'. The individual was last sighted at 7:00 a.m. as the ship was navigating from the Elbe estuary towards Borkum. The MRCC promptly conveyed the information to their counterparts at MRCC Den Helder, who promptly engaged a surveillance aircraft that was conducting a routine patrol in the vicinity. This aircraft remained airborne until 11:10 a.m., when a German rescue helicopter located the missing person's body, which was subsequently retrieved. Following this tragic discovery, the surveillance plane was released from the operation.
