In a dramatic turn of events in the South China Sea, a distressing incident unfolded on January 11, 2018, when a Vietnamese fishing vessel sank with 13 crew members aboard. The location of the incident was recorded at 02°04'N 104°39'E, approximately 55 nautical miles northeast of the Singapore Strait. Miraculously, rescue efforts commenced shortly after the vessel went down. The container ship 'Nordlily' played a crucial role in the operation, successfully rescuing one fisherman who was found clinging to life in the waters. This courageous rescue took place on the afternoon of January 12, just hours after the sinking occurred at 11:30 PM the previous night. Following closely behind, the 'Asiatic Dawn' managed to save eight additional crew members about two hours later, approximately 10 nautical miles south of the original sinking site. The 'MG Neptune' also joined the rescue efforts, bringing in two more fishermen from the perilous waters. Tragically, two crew members are still unaccounted for. In a coordinated response, the search and rescue (SAR) operations were overseen by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of Singapore and Malaysia, which deployed a patrol boat, a Super Puma helicopter, and a Fokker aircraft in the hope of locating the missing fishermen.
