The Uthlande: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

The ferry MS Uthlande, currently under routine technical dry-docking at Husumer Dock- und Reparatur GmbH & Co. KG until January 31, 2026, made its return to the home port of Wyk and resumed its regular service on February 2. However, on February 27, the ferry was taken out of service once more after an oil leak was discovered in one of its four Voith Schneider propellers. Each of these propellers operates independently, complete with its own engine and gearbox. While the vessel could technically function with only three propellers, this practice is not allowed during regular scheduled operations. As a result of this issue, MS Uthlande has been laid up in Wyk/Föhr and will require another dry-docking at the Husum shipyard for necessary repairs.

On February 8, 2012, the ferry 'Uthlande' encountered significant challenges while navigating through icy conditions between Foehr and the Westfrisian mainland, resulting in damage to its propeller.
