On October 18, 2025, a dramatic rescue unfolded two nautical miles south of the Needles, off the coast of the Isle of Wight, when the 'Valiant' encountered a wrecked sailing yacht. The lone sailor was discovered clinging desperately to the upturned hull amid rough seas. The alarm was raised shortly before 11:00 a.m. BST, prompting a swift response from the Solent RNLI, Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, and the Coastguard helicopter. In an inspiring display of maritime teamwork, the Freshwater lifeboat joined forces with Solent Rescue 1 and the SAR helicopter 175 to execute the rescue. The crew of the Solent RNLI expertly maneuvered alongside the distressed vessel, successfully retrieving the sailor from the choppy waters. After ensuring his safety with a survival blanket and confirming he required no further medical attention, the decision was made to transport him aboard the HMC 'Valiant' for shelter as they made their way back to Yarmouth.
