Vea Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On the night of September 18, 2012, the vessel 'Vea' came to the aid of a distressed yacht near Bergen. The mishap occurred six nautical miles west of Ryvarden when the yacht's mast snapped due to strong winds, causing both the mast and sail to plunge into the sea. The yacht, carrying a crew of three, swiftly contacted Rogaland Radio for assistance, prompting the dispatched lifeboat 'Bergen Kreds' from the NSSR station in Haugesund. 'Vea', which was already in proximity to the distressed yacht, arrived on the scene just 15 minutes ahead of the lifeboat. Upon arrival, it was evident that the crew was struggling to eliminate the fallen mast and sail from their vessel. The lifeboat then provided crucial support using a hacksaw to detach the wires and rods holding the broken mast, a process that took approximately one hour. Once freed, the lifeboat successfully towed the yacht to calmer waters in Bømlafjorden. Post-assistance, the yacht's rudder and propeller were evaluated, and it was able to continue its journey back to Bergen under its own power.
