Working Conditions Aboard the Vectis-Progress

On January 29, 2019, the Hellenic Coast Guard responded to an emergency call from the cargo vessel Vectis Progress, reporting that its 49-year-old captain required immediate medical assistance. Rapid action was taken as a patrol boat arrived to evacuate the ailing captain, who was swiftly transported to the port of Kolymvari. From there, an ambulance rushed him to the General Hospital of Chania, where he was hospitalized for further treatment. At the time of the incident, the Vectis Progress, carrying a load of iron from Iskenderun and en route to Barcelona, remained anchored in the vicinity of Gramvousa.
