Investigation Launched into Possible Illegal Oil Disposal on Fortuna
On November 1, 2018, at approximately 11 a.m., the maritime police in Wismar conducted a routine inspection of the vessel Fortuna. During their examination, discrepancies were discovered in the Oil Diary Part I, raising concerns that about 1.5 m³ of oil residues may have been unlawfully disposed of. Despite the suspicions, concrete evidence of illegal dumping was not gathered during the check. Consequently, an administrative offense procedure has been initiated against the responsible senior engineer, along with the imposition of a security deposit amounting to EUR 791. Following the inspection, the Fortuna set sail from Wismar on November 2 at 3:50 p.m., headed for Koge.
Russian Captain of Fortuna Fined for Delayed Grounding Report
The captain of the Russian vessel 'Fortuna' has been penalized with a fine of 10,000 Danish Crowns for his failure to promptly report the grounding incident that occurred near Bandholm on February 12. Following the incident, the Danish police conducted an interrogation with the captain on February 14, revealing that there was a delay of approximately 1.5 hours before he communicated with the Danish Admiral Fleet's operational command, SOK. This delay was deemed excessive. The fine was swiftly settled, allowing 'Fortuna' to continue her journey on February 15. Prior to her departure, divers inspected the vessel and confirmed that there was no damage to the ship's hull. Upon leaving Bandholm, the 'Fortuna' took on a pilot and successfully arrived in Malmö on February 16.
Fortuna Resurfaced Following Successful Tug Operation
On February 14, at around noon, the vessel 'Fortuna' was successfully refloated from its grounding near the channel between Bandholm and Askø, thanks to the efforts of the tug 'Sontinja' during high tide. The 'Fortuna' docked in Bandholm at 12:15 a.m. following the refloating operation. Divers are set to inspect the ship for any potential damage. If the examination reveals no issues, the 'Fortuna' could continue its journey. As a precautionary measure, the anti-pollution vessel 'Marie Miljø' remained stationed in Bandholm port during the incident.
