Ukrainian Intelligence Uncovers Vessels Exporting Coal from Occupied Territories
The Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service has revealed a list of vessels involved in the illicit export of coking coal from Russian-occupied areas, including the vessel 'Victoria V'. This operation is centered around the port of Mariupol and forms part of Russia's systematic strategy to exploit these territories, blatantly breaching international law and warfare regulations. Among the identified ships, the 'Alfa M' transported approximately 40,000 tons of coal, while the 'Alfa 1' exported over 20,000 tons. Additionally, 'Alpha Hermes' accounted for more than 5,000 tons, and 'Victoria K' also shipped more than 20,000 tons. The total weight of coal exported amounts to around 120,000 tons, with 'Victoria V' alone contributing over 35,000 tons. This coal is instrumental for producing thousands of tons of steel, underscoring how Russia is leveraging occupied Ukrainian territories to bolster its economy. Such actions represent a severe infringement of international humanitarian law, particularly the 1907 Hague Convention, which explicitly forbids the exploitation of resources from occupied lands without the consent of their legitimate authorities.
