Viking Emerald Grounded Near Woodland, Washington: Refloated After Tug Assistance
On November 14, 2015, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the cargo ship Viking Emerald lost steering capabilities and subsequently ran aground near Woodland, Washington, while navigating the Columbia River on its journey from Tacoma to Portland. The incident caused a significant disruption, but thanks to the prompt response from Foss Maritime's tugs, the vessel was successfully refloated several hours later. By around 7:30 p.m., the tugs had made notable progress in maneuvering the ship's bow out of the river's muddy bottom, directing it toward a deeper channel. Ultimately, the Viking Emerald was freed and towed to Terminal 6 in Portland, arriving on November 15 at approximately 7 a.m. For visual coverage and additional details, visit the following links: [Oregon Live](http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2015/11/cargo_ship_aground.html), [KATU](http://www.katu.com/news/local/Ship-runs-aground-on-the-Columbia-River-349236171.html), [KOIN](http://koin.com/2015/11/14/giant-cargo-ship-runs-aground-in-columbia-river/), and [KGW](http://www.kgw.com/story/news/local/washington/2015/11/14/cargo-ship-runs-aground-near-columbia-city/75802836/).
