Injured Master Rescued by Margate RNLI Lifeboat
On January 16, 2013, the Margate RNLI lifeboat sprang into action to aid an injured master aboard the vessel 'Viking Odessa', which was anchored off the scenic north coast of Kent. The Dover Coastguard received a call around noon from the vehicle carrier, anchored at Tongue, roughly seven miles from Margate. The Ukrainian master had sustained a significant leg injury and sought medical assistance. After consulting with a shore-based doctor, it was determined that immediate evacuation was necessary for proper treatment. Responding quickly, Margate's all-weather lifeboat was launched, with a local paramedic and crew member on board. Upon reaching the 'Viking Odessa', the injured seafarer was safely transferred to the lifeboat. The team then transported him back to Margate, where he was handed over to the South East Coast Ambulance Service and subsequently taken to QEQM Hospital for further care.
