On the afternoon of October 17, 2022, a distressing incident occurred involving four crew members from the bulk carrier 'VIMC Sunrise' as they went overboard under mysterious circumstances. The vessel was attempting to anchor approximately seven nautical miles west of Mailiao Port on Taiwan's central coast while on its route from Singapore to Xiamen. The reasons for the anchoring decision remain unclear. Fortunately, three of the seafarers were swiftly rescued and brought back on board, though they sustained broken limbs in the process. Unfortunately, one crew member is still unaccounted for. Taking immediate action, the ship's Master opted to navigate towards Kaohsiung for urgent medical assistance, successfully docking at the port on October 18 around 6 a.m.
