Vishva Anand Stays Stationary in Durban Awaiting New Rudder

May 07, 2021 12:19

Damaged Bulk Carrier 'Vishva Anand' Successfully Towed to Durban Port

Oct 31, 2020 18:25

The bulk carrier 'Vishva Anand' encountered significant rudder damage while navigating the waters off the coast of Africa. Following its departure from Colombo, Sri Lanka, on September 27, the vessel experienced a technical failure and became unable to steer (NUC) on October 11 at 03:55 a.m. After being adrift for several days, the navigation status changed to 'Restricted Manoeuvrability' around 10:40 a.m. on October 14, approximately 70 miles off Ponta Dobela, positioned at 26 54 14 S, 34 09 40 E. This transition likely indicated that salvage operations were initiated. The 'Vishva Anand' then proceeded at a slow speed under the same navigation status until it successfully docked at the New Pier Container Terminal in Durban on October 27, arriving at 8 a.m. Plans are in place for the rudder to be replaced with a new unit, which is expected to be manufactured by December 25.

Shipping Corporation of India Welcomes New Panamax Bulk Carrier Vishva Anand

Jul 24, 2012 13:03

In a significant move for India's maritime industry, the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), the nation's largest shipping enterprise, announced the delivery of its newest Panamax bulk carrier, the m.v. Vishva Anand, on July 20, 2012. This vessel marks the inaugural delivery from a series of four Panamax bulk carriers commissioned by SCI from STX (Dalian) Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China, with the initial order placed in August 2008. The acquisition of these vessels serves to modernize SCI’s fleet, replacing the older Daewoo series Handymax bulk carriers that were constructed back in 1986/87. The m.v. Vishva Anand is designed with a substantial capacity, boasting a deadweight tonnage of 80,204 tonnes, well above the traditional Panamax vessels that typically carry around 75,000 dwt. Accompanying this order are also four Kamsarmax bulk carriers, expanding SCI's operational capabilities. The m.v. Vishva Anand features a gross tonnage of 44,007 tonnes and has been classed with Lloyd's Register (LR) and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), ensuring compliance with the most rigorous international maritime standards. This acquisition not only enhances SCI’s bulk transport capacity but also reinforces its commitment to safety and regulatory adherence in maritime operations.
