Theft Aboard 'Vishva Vikas' at Beira Anchorage

On July 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. UTC, the crew aboard the 'Vishva Vikas' discovered that thieves had infiltrated the vessel while it was securely moored at the Beira anchorage, located at coordinates 19°54'55" S, 35°04'59" E. Following the alarming discovery, a thorough search was conducted by the crew; however, no intruders were found still on the ship. The incident was promptly reported to Port Control and the vessel's owner to ensure all necessary parties were informed. Additionally, authorities including Beira Port Control, the Beira Port PFSO, and the Mozambique Flag Administration were notified, with the details of the theft subsequently escalated to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mozambique for further investigation.

The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), a state-owned maritime enterprise, has officially received the MV Vishva Vikas, a newly constructed supramax bulk carrier, from the prestigious STX Dalian Shipyard in China. This latest addition marks a significant milestone for SCI, raising its fleet count to 76 vessels. MV Vishva Vikas boasts a gross tonnage of 33,185 tonnes and a deadweight capacity of 57,127.8 tonnes, highlighting its robust design and commercial capabilities. This vessel is part of a larger order consisting of six supramax bulk carriers, with this delivery being the fifth in the series. Notably, SCI anticipates the arrival of the final vessel from this order next month. Looking ahead, SCI is steadily expanding its operations, having a total of 27 vessels currently on order.
