Volcán de Tauce Ferry Sold to Emirates International Air Cargo for Hospital Conversion

Feb 05, 2025 21:07

The ‘Volcán de Tauce,’ which has been docked at the Santa Catalina facilities in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria since January 14, is set for a new chapter. After addressing previous technical issues that disrupted the La Palma ferry service last December—prompting the temporary introduction of the ‘Volcán de Tirajana’—the vessel has been purchased by Emirates International Air Cargo, a company based in the United Arab Emirates. The sale was communicated to staff of the Armas Trasmediterránea Group on February 5, with a planned delivery date of February 13. Currently owned by Anarafe S.L., part of Armas Trasmediterránea, the ferry's new management envisions transforming it into a hospital ship. This acquisition marks an exciting development in the maritime logistics and healthcare sectors as the vessel embarks on a new mission.
