The Vonar Resurfaces: A Maritime Triumph

May 09, 2014 18:10

On May 8, 2023, the 'Vonar' reclaimed its place in the waters with the assistance of the impressive 'Eide Lift 7,' a giant crane from Eide Marine Services based in Høylandsbygd. The crane was towed to Harstad by the tug vessel 'Eide Max.' Once the 'Vonar' was afloat again, it was safely towed back to its homeport in Ålesund, where it was docked at Vegsund Slip AS. Meanwhile, HAMEK continues to face challenges, as the yard remains unable to slip ships due to damage sustained. The team is actively assessing the situation to determine the extent of the damage to the slip and initiate necessary repairs.

In an operation to restore stability, the tugboat 'Eide Max' and the crane ship 'Eide Lift 7' have arrived in Harstad to assist in righting the distressed trawler, 'Vonar'. After successfully returning the vessel to an upright position, the plan is to tow it to Sunnmøre. Here, the 'Vonar' will be docked at Vegsund Slip for essential repairs addressing the damage it sustained during the tilt, as well as rectifying existing issues with its propeller.

Ongoing Challenges for the Heeling Trawler 'Vonar' at Harstad Mechanical Yard

Apr 29, 2014 11:51

As of April 28, 2023, the trawler 'Vonar' continues to sit at an angle on the slip in Samasjøen. The vessel encountered difficulties on April 25 when it collided with the wall while attempting to enter the Harstad Mechanical Yard. Efforts are currently underway to devise a solution, as HAMEK has engaged a specialized company to assist with the recovery, given their limited resources for rectification. The situation is causing delays, as no other vessels can be accommodated at the yard until the 'Vonar' is freed. At this time, the cause of the incident remains unclear.
