On December 7, 2023, the maritime vessel 'Mahatsangy' experienced an allision with a nearby speedboat while preparing for departure at Vohemar port. The incident occurred due to a minor control difficulty that resulted in a malfunction of the vessel's propulsion system. This unintended propulsion caused the 'Mahatsangy' to move forward unexpectedly, breaking several mooring lines and colliding with a small unmanned fiberglass boat that was anchored nearby. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or environmental repercussions from this incident, and both the 'Mahatsangy' and the port infrastructure sustained no damage. After the allision, the vessel remained docked to conduct a thorough investigation into the propulsion failure and implement corrective measures. After completing preliminary safety inspections and securing clearance from local officials, the 'Mahatsangy' resumed its voyage on December 8, 2023, making its way to Diego Suarez later that same day.
