Bosphorus Collision: Cargo Vessel and Bulk Carrier Incident

On November 28, 2016, a maritime incident occurred at 11:12 a.m. in the Anadolu Hirasi region of the Bosporus Strait, where the cargo vessel m/v 'Forward' collided with the bulk carrier 'Wadi Al Karnak' near the iconic 2nd Bosphorus Bridge. The 'Wadi Al Karnak' was headed south during its transit through the strait. Following the crash, maritime traffic was halted from 2:03 p.m. to 3:06 p.m. The 'Forward' was significantly impacted, having experienced a rudder failure prior to the incident, and was making its way northwards toward the Beykoz area while being assisted by a tugboat. The vessel was en route from Kerch to Bandirma, while the 'Wadi Al Karnak' was on a journey from Novorossiysk to Alexandria. After the collision, the 'Forward' was anchored at Zeytinburnu, clearly showing signs of extensive damage.
