Vessel 'Wadi Albostan' Detained in Paradip Amid Financial Dispute

Aug 19, 2024 09:00

On August 14, 2024, the bulk carrier 'Wadi Albostan' was officially arrested at Paradip due to an ongoing financial disagreement between the vessel owner and Elboil GmbH, a German supplier of marine gas oil. The dispute centers around an unpaid invoice amounting to approximately $477,320, which pertains to the delivery of 98 metric tonnes of low-sulfur marine gas oil. In response to the situation, Elboil GmbH has initiated legal proceedings by filing a case under Section 4 of the Admiralty Act 2017, which governs maritime claims and their resolutions, at the Orissa High Court. Following this, the Admiralty judge proceedings resulted in the issuance of an order for the vessel's arrest. Subsequently, a civil judge has been designated to enforce this detention order. The Paradip Port Authority, including its secretary and traffic manager, were notified to ensure compliance with the arrest. As of now, the 'Wadi Albostan' remains detained until further directives from the authorities. Notably, the vessel had just departed from Chittagong Anchorage on August 3, 2024, en route to Paradip Port, carrying a substantial cargo of 55,000 metric tons of iron ore.

Chaos at Chittagong Port: Lighter Vessel 'Nasa' Partially Submerged After Collision

Aug 24, 2014 20:43

On the morning of August 23, 2014, the 1200-tonne lighter vessel 'Nasa' faced a perilous situation at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port when it was struck by the sunken wreck of another lighter vessel, 'Sundarban 1'. At the time, the 'Nasa' was actively unloading cement clinker from the mother vessel, 'Wadi-Al-Bostan'. The incident occurred when the anchor of 'Wadi-Al-Bostan' unexpectedly dragged, leaving the 'Nasa' out of control and vulnerable to drifting into the submerged wreck. As a result of the collision, a significant crack developed on the deck of the 'Nasa', leading to partial submersion. To mitigate the situation, the vessel was hastily transported to nearby Patenga seashore for safety. Thankfully, the swift response of the lighter vessel 'East Bengal' was instrumental in rescuing the 13 crew members aboard the 'Nasa', ensuring their safety while maintaining clear navigation for other vessels in the outer anchorage area.
