On December 6, 2015, at 8:05 PM, the cargo vessel 'Wadi Safaga', carrying 57,500 tons of wheat, experienced a grounding incident in the Ahırkapı area, off the coast of Zeytinburnu, while en route from Istanbul to Alexandria. This unfortunate event occurred despite multiple radio warnings regarding the vessel's dangerous trajectory. In response to the situation, the tugboat 'Kurtarma 8' (IMO: 9598610) and the lifeboat 'Kiyem 3' were promptly dispatched to assist. After a concerted effort, the 'Wadi Safaga' was successfully refloated on December 9 at 6:40 PM and subsequently moored near the grounding location. The vessel departed from Istanbul on December 17 at 8:15 PM, setting its course towards Damietta, with an estimated time of arrival on December 20.
