On April 22, 2016, at approximately 9 p.m., the ferry 'Wave Master 6' experienced a significant emergency while traversing from Singapore to Batam Center, carrying 140 passengers. The incident was triggered by a fire originating from one of the generators, caused by a short circuit. Passengers were quickly engulfed in thick smoke, leading to a brief blackout that incited panic and prompted many to rush to the upper deck. In a commendable response, the crew members swiftly ventilated the affected compartments and extinguished the fire promptly. Although the incident disabled the port side engine, the ferry managed to navigate safely to Batam Center using the remaining engine power, ensuring the safety of all aboard.
