On July 21, 2026, at around 06:30 a.m., the 'Hosei Venture' (IMO: 9550670) experienced an unexpected shift while securely moored at a pier in Brake. The incident occurred due to the suction effect generated by two passing vessels: the 'Arvika' (IMO: 9624043), which was traveling upstream at a speed of 8.2 knots, and the 'Western Tokyo,' moving downstream at 8.5 knots nearly simultaneously. This unusual maritime phenomenon caused the gangway to detach, resulting in substantial damage that rendered it unusable and significantly hindered access to the ship. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as no crew members were present on the gangway during the occurrence. Investigative efforts led by the Brake Water Police found that the 'Hosei Venture' had not been properly secured at the time, with some mooring lines inadequately tensioned, which allowed the vessel to move. The downstream vessel maintained an appropriate speed, thus not contributing to the incident. Damage was confined to the 'Hosei Venture' itself, prompting the port authority to initiate administrative offense procedures against the responsible captain, in accordance with the Lower Saxony Port Regulations, leading to the imposition of a fine.
