What Crew Members Say About Whitchampion

On December 20, 2019, the bunker tanker Whitchampion experienced engine issues while navigating from Southampton to St. Helens Anchorage. At approximately 2 p.m., the vessel struggled with reduced steering capability and was forced to slow its pace near the coordinates 50°28'52.8" N, 000°17'18.6" E. The tanker was loaded with 3,887 tonnes of gas oil intended for bunkering. Following the incident, Whitchampion successfully arrived at Portsmouth, docking at 6 a.m. on December 21.

On October 17, 2019, the 'Whitchampion', a merchant vessel traveling from Plymouth to Southampton with a crew of eight onboard, encountered a significant engine issue due to a turbo-charger failure. The incident occurred approximately six nautical miles from Portland Bill at the coordinates 50 25 09 N, 002 25 09 W, at 9:50 AM. In response to the emergency, the 'Whitchampion' was redirected towards Portland for urgent repairs. A tugboat was dispatched from Portland to provide assistance. Successfully arriving at Portland Harbour at 2:50 PM, the crew began the repair process, which is estimated to take around 48 hours.
