On November 28, 2017, at 02:53 a.m., the cargo vessel 'RMS Goole' collided with the Russian pilot boat 'Krutoyar' (IMO: 273389560) in the northeastern Gulf of Finland near Vysotsk port. The incident resulted in the capsizing of the pilot boat, which had three crew members on board. The 'RMS Goole', which was sailing from Slvesborg to Joensuu and had been navigating Russian waters, successfully rescued one crew member from the water at 03:31 a.m. and transferred him to a tugboat. In a subsequent unfortunate turn of events, a following container ship collided with the stern of the RMS Goole. The impact caused significant damage, with authorities estimating repair costs to be in the tens of thousands of euros. The collision resulted in a substantial hole—approximately 5 square meters—above the waterline at the stern of the RMS Goole, along with extensive damage to the entire aft section. The container ship that struck the coaster also incurred bow damage. Fortunately, following a thorough investigation by the Duisburg Water Police, both vessels were cleared to continue their respective journeys.
