Wilson Nantes Grounds in Inverscaddle Bay During Extreme Tides
On March 30, 2021, at 2:37 p.m., the cargo vessel 'Wilson Nantes' faced a significant setback as it ran aground in Inverscaddle Bay, located at coordinates 56° 50' 24" N, 005° 07' 54" W. The ship was transporting 4,400 tonnes of wood chips when it encountered perilous tidal conditions and became stranded on a sand sea basin. In response to the emergency, the tug 'Voe Earl' was swiftly brought in to provide assistance, successfully towing the vessel towards safety. By 5:50 p.m., the convoy reached Inverscaddle Bay, which was approximately five miles from the site of the grounding. Upon arrival at port, a thorough diver inspection of the hull was scheduled to ensure the integrity of the vessel and facilitate its safe operations moving forward.
