Wilson Expands Fleet by Acquiring Arklow Resolve and Arklow Rover from Arklow Shipping
Norwegian short sea shipping company Wilson has successfully negotiated the acquisition of a pair of 5,000 dwt bulk carriers, the Arklow Rover and Arklow Resolve, from the Irish maritime firm Arklow Shipping. These vessels, both constructed in 2004, are set to be delivered to their new owner in the first quarter of 2020, marking a strategic expansion for Wilson in the bulk shipping sector.
Arklow Resolve Experiences Cooling System Issue Near Isle of Wight
On September 14 at approximately 0004 hours UTC, the bulk carrier 'Arklow Resolve', identified by IMO number 9303410, encountered a cooling system malfunction approximately 25 nautical miles from St. Catherine's Lighthouse, Isle of Wight, at the coordinates 50°18'22N, 001°41'10W. The vessel, which was transporting clinker from Swansea to Ipswich with a crew of seven on board, reported a defect in the gasket of its cooling system. Disabled Cargo Ship Rescued and Towed to Safety
On August 17, 2019, the cargo vessel 'Arklow Resolve' encountered a serious issue while sailing from Belfast to Ipswich. With a load of 4,815 tons of stones and a crew of eight, the ship suffered a gearbox coupling failure at coordinates 51°27'46.5"N, 005°55'30.8"W, approximately 35 miles from St. Annes Head, at 5:55 PM. The vessel subsequently became adrift and required immediate tug assistance for safe towing to Swansea. In response to the situation, the crew ensured the safety of the ship by dropping anchor and maintaining a watchful eye to prevent any dragging incidents. Continuous communication was established between the ship and the Milford Haven Coastguard Operations Centre (CGOC). The tug 'Cannis' (IMO: 8102141) was dispatched from Plymouth and reached the vessel's location by 5:15 AM on August 18. However, complications arose as the 'Arklow Resolve' experienced anchor troubles, slipping anchor at position 51°32'33.0"N, 005°42'37.2"W, which was marked with three green buoys for visibility. At 6:15 AM, the 'Cannis' successfully took the cargo ship in tow. Following updates, the Swansea Harbour Master was fully briefed on the developing situation regarding the disabled vessel, and the freighter was eventually guided into the port of Swansea. With assistance from the tug 'Svitzer Bentley' (IMO: 9127356), the 'Arklow Resolve' was successfully berthed at the quay on August 19 at 11 PM. After some time at the port for necessary checks, the vessel departed Swansea on September 12, 2019, setting its course for Ipswich, where it docked at the bulk terminal on September 15 at 11 AM.
