Crew Member Airlifted Following Injury at Gunfleet Sands Wind Farm
A crew member from the vessel 'Wind Pioneer' was airlifted to a hospital after sustaining a significant leg injury on February 21, 2016, at 4 p.m. This incident occurred during maintenance operations at DONG Energy’s 172MW Gunfleet Sands offshore wind farm, located off the east coast of England. The injured worker experienced a lacerated leg as part of a routine exercise on-site. Immediate assistance was provided by DONG Energy and HM Coastguard, who coordinated the response. A nearby support vessel initially received the injured individual before he was transferred via helicopter to a medical facility. The Clacton Coastguard Rescue Team was also deployed to the scene to offer support. The Air Sea Rescue helicopter, dispatched from Lydd, subsequently flew the injured crew member to Colchester Hospital for further treatment. The situation was managed effectively, demonstrating the robust emergency response protocols in place at offshore operations.
