Additionally, the salvage vessel 'MarĂa Pita' joined the operation to ensure a safe tow. By 8 a.m., the 'Sam Lion' was securely brought into port, operating under its own power but still monitored by emergency services. Thankfully, the incident did not disrupt regular port operations. The freighter departed Puerto MarĂn on December 14 at 5:30 p.m. and eventually docked at Moll Alvarez de la Campa in Barcelona on December 19. Following a brief stay, the 'Sam Lion' set sail again on December 27, with its next destination being Marin, expected to arrive on December 29.

Cargo Transfer Operations Initiated for Sam Hawk Following Sam Lion Inspection

Aug 06, 2018 12:58

Recent inspections of the bulk carrier 'Sam Lion' have unveiled significant damage, including seven compromised ballast tanks along with two diesel tanks and a cofferdam. On August 3, 'Sam Lion' departed from Ceuta and made its way to the La Cabezuela dock in Puerto Real, where it is set to transfer its cargo to the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier 'Sam Hawk' (IMO: 9637416). After leaving La Coruna on August 3, 'Sam Hawk' reached Cádiz on August 6 and is now prepared to take on 40,000 tons of clinker cement, which was initially destined for Senegal. The cargo discharge and subsequent loading process is expected to take four to five days. Following the transfer, 'Sam Lion' will be moved from Cabezuela to Navantia for necessary repairs. This operation is being overseen by the Maritime Captaincy, the APBC, and Portillo, ensuring all procedures adhere to maritime safety standards.
