The Chinese bulk carrier Yue Dian 81 faced an unexpected challenge on January 22, 2013, when it was barred from entering Newcastle Harbour due to an engine malfunction. As the vessel approached the harbour with a marine pilot on board, the engine problem arose. In compliance with established safety protocols, the Newcastle Port Corporation marine pilot made the decision to redirect the ship back to sea to prioritize the safety of everyone involved. Fortunately, the crew efficiently addressed the engine issues, and Yue Dian 81 was able to successfully dock in Newcastle on the morning of January 23.
