On February 12, 2021, at 3:08 a.m., a notable maritime incident unfolded involving the bulk carrier 'Calypso.Gr' (IMO: 9785134), which was making its way from Riga to the Panama Canal with a crew of 20 on board. The vessel collided with the fishing vessel 'Soetkin-Z18' about 22.3 miles away from Selsey Bill, specifically at position 50 27 25 N, 000 24 51 W. The Selsey Lifeboat, accompanied by the Coastguard helicopter R175, swiftly arrived at the scene to provide necessary assistance. By 6:20 a.m., the 'Soetkin-Z18' had successfully retrieved its fishing gear and restored full propulsion and steering capabilities, allowing the lifeboat to be released from the operation. The fishing vessel departed the incident scene by around 1 p.m. and made its way to the European Fish Centre in Zeebrugge, where it arrived at 3:50 a.m. on February 13.
